The opening battle between The Beatles Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5 has laid waste to the September landscape and the numbers have been tallied. The fab four edged out the Kurt Cobain simulator by 20 percent on a per unit basis, and MTV Games general manager Scott Guthrie made sure everyone knew about it.

“We outsold them two-to-one on a revenue basis and we outperformed on a unit basis as well, despite the fact that they had an eight-day advantage, ..read the full article

EA’s Peter Moore reckons that Microsoft will once again be the first one to the market once the new console generation rolls around.

“[The industry is] at least a decade away from saying goodbye to a physical disc,” Moore said during a PLAY Conference panel while chatting about the next-gen and digital distribution. “The more important question is what does the next generation of console look like?” He didn’t have an answer, but the ex-Microsoft man did say it will probably ..read the full article

September’s US sales numbers released by NPD confirm what everyone, including Microsoft, expected; The price cut and the introduction of the new slimmer model paired with some solid advertising were enough for the PS3 to catapult itself to the top spot in the most systems sold charts while even beating expectations by 15%. Well, that’s almost correct — if you’re not just counting home consoles then the DS still beat it by ~32,000 units, but when it comes to home ..read the full article

There are wise people out in the world that tell you never to put cash in the mail as it is susceptible to being stolen. At this point that almost seems obvious to most of us but never would we suspect that a game we rented might never make it to us due to it being stolen in-route to our mailboxes. Well in Philadelphia — where this writer happens to be hailing from — a postal worker stole 2,220 GameFly ..read the full article

Modern Warfare 2 is now on the same level as cigarettes and booze in the UK. The British Board of Film Classification, which will continue to rate videogames until the PEGI system officially takes over as the standard, has given developer Infinity Ward’s latest game an 18 rating. Equivalent to a Mature rating in the States, the 18 label is a first for the Call of Duty series, according to Eurogamer. Tough break, underage gamers. But on the bright side, ..read the full article

Mistwalker Studios, the company headed up by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, hasn’t made much noise since releasing Lost Odyssey last February. There was Blue Dragon Plus on DS, they announced the 360 RPG Cry On had been cancelled, and not a whole lot else. Well it turns out that, surprise, they’re still making games. Over on Sakaguchi’s blog, after talking about how delighted he was to find out that they have tiny Lego surfboards for Lego men to stand on, ..read the full article

No matter how charming Nathan Drake can be, gamers in the UK simply can not resist a shiny new soccer title as demonstrated again by last week’s UK sales chart. FIFA 10 has been holding on to the number one spot ever since it debuted three weeks ago, first pushing down Halo 3: ODST, then holding off newcomer Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, and now preventing Uncharted 2: Among Thieves from climbing all the way to the top.

According to the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine, Killzone 3 is supposedly one of the “secret games of 2010,” is in “deep development” at Guerrilla Games and is set for a 2010 release.

The mag also mentions Resistance 3 and a sequel to Treyarch’s Call of Duty: World at War in the works for 2010, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise as Resistance 3 was accidentally announced on the set of an upcoming movie, and we’ve known about ..read the full article

Metal Gear Solid’s Hideo Kojima took to his blog to announce that Zone of the Enders 3, will happen, though exactly when remains a mystery.

“I cannot make a promise about time. However, I can promise a sequel.”

Confirming what we already expected, a NeoGAF user believed to be Louis Gascoigne, a programmer at Visceral Games, has said that “nobody bought” Dead Space: Extraction, likely meaning the game has not met sales expectations. In addition, he reiterated that the game was a test of the Wii audience, and that Extraction’s sales will affect the company’s future projects on the Wii.
