GameTrailers brings us this first look at the next game from the makers of Bayonetta and MadWorld.

Titled Vanquish, this is (probably) the game that Shinji Mikami, creator of Resident Evil, said he was working on when Platinum first announced its lineup of Sega-published games. It’s not what you’d expect from the master of survival horror — in fact, it looks more like a trailer for a Halo spinoff, all military ops and suits of space marine armor.

Since the name Vanquish ..read the full article

You don’t just recruit the galaxy’s most dangerous soldiers, assassins and outcasts in Mass Effect 2. If you play your cards right, you can sleep with them.

Futuristic hook-ups in the role-playing game have already been captured by players and uploaded to YouTube just days after the game’s Tuesday release. They all require your character, Commander Shepard (which can be played as either a male or female), to jump through a series of conversational hoops before hopping in the sack with ..read the full article

ipad

SAN FRANCISCO — Apple’s iPad holds some unique possibilities for gaming, but what the company showed at the overly hyped tablet’s unveiling Wednesday barely scratched the surface.

The tech demos that mobile gamemakers like Gameloft and Electronic Arts showed at the briefing were tweaked versions of the companies’ iPhone games, adding a few new features that rely on the iPad’s bigger screen: In first-person shooter Nova, players can drag a mini-map around the screen, resizing it to their liking. Zachary Quinto, the actor who played Spock in last year’s Star Trek reboot, says that his bow in the forthcoming Star Trek Online game will be his last voyage to the stars for a while.

“I’m stepping away from Star Trek for at least two years — no movies, no conventions, no anything for a while,” Quinto told Wired.com in a telephone interview. His planned absence from geekdom was a major motivation for doing the new game. “I did this game ..read the full article

tatsunoko-fightstick-2

It should come as little surprise that last week’s release of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was accompanied by a branded Wii fighting stick. It should also come as little surprise that Mad Catz’s Arcade Fightstick is pretty darn good.

Serious fighting game players know they can’t survive with a standard game pad. I am not a serious fighting game player, as well you already know, but I understand the sentiment. Fightsticks that mimic the authentic arcade experience can get pretty expensive and ..read the full article

Mass Effect 2 drags role-playing games kicking and screaming into the future.

The science fiction epic from Bioware, released Tuesday for PC and Xbox 360 (reviewed), is a glaring reminder that stats, loot and potions don’t have to be the end-all, be-all of RPGs. Mass Effect 2 effectively pushes all the fiddly little details to the back burner, emphasizing a grand story told not only by the designers, but each individual player. The sequel delivers a captivating experience worthy of following ..read the full article
